Jerez is and always has been the birthplace of the greatest flamenco singers. Its history is based on art, horses, and wines. Some of its most outstanding monuments are the Alcázar, of Arab origin, the Jerez Charterhouse, the Cathedral of San Salvador, or the Church of San Dionisio among many other Renaissance and Baroque buildings. The Horse Fair is its most important annual event; and to enjoy its tapas gastronomy, it is necessary to visit the tabancos or its many wineries. Jerez houses the Andalusian Flamenco Centre.
