The museum is set in the Torre de la Vela Tower, built on an old, 16th-century defensive battery in Santa Ana port.
It has three floors and a five-storey tower. On the first floor are the temporary exhibitions, the library and this is where activities are held.
The permanent exhibition begins on the second floor with rooms on Prehistory, Numismatics, and Punic/Roman Classical Antiquities. The third floor houses rooms with Medieval Moorish Art and the section on Modern, Contemporary Melilla.
These rooms give access to the Royal Defensive Wall battery, where you will find the open-air section of the museum, with heraldic exhibits.
