The Barcelona Cotemporary Art Museum was inaugurated in 1995.
The entrance drives to a cylindrical hall from which you can access, through ramps, to the different galleries where the works are exhibited. Its exhibition basically consists of works of arts from the second half of the XX Century together with works related with the avant- garde movements from the beginning of the XX Century: TÃ pies, Paul Klee, Francesc Torres, or Mario Merz.
There are approximately 300 paintings, 150 sculptures, almost more than 8,000 drawings, ceramics and tapestry that show its artistic personality, from 1917 to the 70s and that is combined with different travelling exhibitions. In the same luminous and minimalist building complemented by the use of glass and reflective materials skylights we can see an open air area. The Tapiz de la Fundación (Foundation Tapestry), from 1979, and the JardÃn de la Esculturas (Garden of the Sculptures). The collection was collected thanks to other important artistic institutions in Catalonia, having into account the political and cultural reality, and establishing at the same time a critical view of art.
