The Cartuja de Miraflores is a Carthusian monastery from the Spanish Renaissance, founded by Juan II de Castilla. During the Middle Ages, it was a leisure residence of the king Enrique III.
The church has only one nave and a polygonal apse with star- shape vaults.
We should highlight the mausoleums of Juan II and his wife Isabel de Portugal, by Gil de Siloé.
As well as the door of access from the atrium, with coats of arms of the founder and the cloister, the Capilla del SantÃsimo Sacramento, the major altarpiece, by Gil de Siloé that wonders because of its ornamental richness.
It represents the scene of the Pietà where the figure of crucified Christ appears into a great circle (allusion to the Eucharist) and on the foot of the cross the vertical figures of the Virgin and San Juan; and in the lower part of the altarpiece we can see the Annunciation and the Birth. On its sides, we can find the statues in kneeling position and the coats of arms of the king Juan II de Castilla and his wife Isabel de Portugal.
