It was part of a convent built in 1477 by the Catholic Kings in order to commemorate the Toro´ s Victory.
It is considered to be the most important Gothic monument in the town after the Cathedral. It consists of only one nave that is 56 metres length. Over the door of the former gatehouse, there is a beautiful sculpture group from the XV Century and a richly decorated apse.
Inside, the pillars are covered by arabesques. The freize consists of a great Gothic inscription commemorating the foundation of the temple. The Plateresque altarpiece of the Major Chapel belongs to the Hospital de Santa Cruz de Mendoza.
In the Northern area of the church is located the cloister of the former Franciscan Convent, whose columns are sculpted into beautiful sculptures of Saints.
