The city of Madinat Al-Zahra is located 6 Kilometres to the west from the city of Córdoba. It is a Palace City designed to be the capital city of the Caliphate of Córdoba during Abd al- Rahman III´ s reign.
It has a rectangular floor of 1500 meters by 750 meters with octagonal design. It also has a network of sewers and a well designed network of conducts for the water supply. It is built on stepped terraces that are separated by walls dividing the city into three areas.
In the highest area stood the palaces (Viziers´ House, the Guard, the Rich Hall, the administrative rooms); in the middle area there were orchards and gardens, and in the lowest area the major Aljama mosque and the houses were built.
The Rich Hall is important. It has a basilical structure with three naves and is decorated with marble relieves with decorative motifs inspired in vegetation. In this monument the characteristics of the Caliphal horseshoe arch are formalized.

The Mosque of Córdoba (Mezquita de Córdoba) is considered nowadays as one of the major treasures of the Arabic-Andalusian art and a key monument in the Spanish-Arabic architecture from the Caliphal period.
A place which is used for praying and delighting is, without any type of doubt, unique in the Islamic and Christian world.
It has elements from different cultures such as the Visigothic, Byzantine, Persian and Syrian; so that is how it shows its political, economic and cultural relevance in this city.

This military building was ordered by the King Alfonso XI in 1328. It was built on the ruins of Roman.
The Islamic constructions, being enlarged during the Trastámara dynasty´ s reign (XIV Century). It consists of courtyards and marvellous gardens such as the Paseo de los Reyes (Kings´ Avenue), with statues of the main monarchs. It has a square floor finished off by four towers. You access to the precinct through the Torre de los Leones (Tower of the Lions).
The Salón de Mosaicos (Room of Mosaics) has mosaics in its walls that belong to the Plaza de la Corredera and to a Roman sarcophagus from the III and II Centuries. Finally, we can find the Royal Baths and the Patio Morisco (Spanish Moor´ s Courtyard).
Attached to the Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos we can see the stables, ordered by the king Felipe II in 1570 with the aim of breeding healthy horses for the Royal Family. Although its date of construction was during the XVI Century, they were rebuilt during Carlos III´ s reign, after suffering a great fire.
This place was used as residence of the Catholic Kings during 8 years and it was in this place where they met Christopher Columbus.

It is a Hebrew temple to which you access throught a narrow street called Los Judíos (The Jews). It is a semi- hidden building, whose structure is not exposed to the exterior.
Firstly, we could find a small courtyard where there is a pond for ablutions. The oratory has a square floor and is covered by coffered ceilings, on its Eastern side a tabernacle is opened and is reserved to keep the Torá (divine teaching of the people from Israel).
The opposite side to the tabernacle presents a small niche with a polilobed and pointed arch, where the Santa Quiteria altarpiece was placed.
The decoration used plaster as main element. In the courtyard, an upper gallery has three small balconies with finely scalloped compound arches in which you arrive through a narrow street with the same name. It is decorated with Mudejar elements, using plaster as main element.
It is the only one that has survived in Andalusia and the most important one in Spain regarding inscriptions.

It was built in Cordoba in Roman times by the Emperor Augusto, being part of the Via Augusta. It is 225 meters length and consists of 16 round arches except for four of them which are pointed and the extreme ones that are segmental, and lean on stirrups, communicating both banks of the Guadalquivir River.
It was built using stretcher and header bond. Along History, it has suffered many reforms especially because of battles and riots. As a result, many reconstrutions have taken place, the first one in 720, acquiring its current aspect between the VIII and XIII Centuries. In the centre, it has a sculpture of St Rafael from 1651, by the sculptor Bernabé Gómez del Río.
