This construction was redesigned by the architect Juan de Vallejo and Francisco de Colonia in 1535. It presents the aspect of a castle with two solid towers located on both sides and a triumphal arch in honour to Carlos V, accompanied by two of the most meaningful characters of the New Castile. All the group is dominated by Santa MarÃa la Mayor and the Santo Angel Custodio.
Inside, we should highlight the Sala de la Poridad (Hall of Purity), meeting point of the Burgos City Council since XVIII century.
The main room is dominated by a monumental fresco by Vela Zanetti. There are remains of Mudejar plaster and in its second floor we should highlight the pharmacy of the old Hospital de San Juan.
Nowadays it is the Centro Cultural Histórico ArtÃstico, as well as Exhibitions Hall.
