Höhlen von Altamira

Die Höhlen von Altamira sind eine der wichtigsten malerischen Zyklen der Vorgeschichte. Sie befinden sich in der Nähe von Santillana del Mar in Kantabrien. Sie wurden 1879 von Marcelino Sanz de Sautuola entdeckt und zeigen Bisons, Ziegen, Hirschkühe, Pferde, Zeichen, zoomorphe Masken und menschliche Figuren.

 

Ihre Entdeckung vor 120 Jahren löste eine starke Kontroverse unter Archäologen über deren Authentizität aus.
