Der heute sichtbare Abtei-Palast ist ein Wiederaufbau des Abtes Esteban Lorenzo de Mendoza y Gatica im letzten Drittel des 18. Jahrhunderts, da der vorige, der sich innerhalb der Festung La Mota befand, in Ruinen lag.

Der „Palacete de la Hilandera“ ist ein Juwel der modernistischen Architektur, versteckt im historischen Zentrum von Alcalá la Real. Es befindet sich direkt in der Calle Real, einer der Hauptverkehrsadern dieser Stadt.
