Province of Albacete

The province of Albacete has been inhabited since ancient times, as evidenced by the remains of settlements found in Hellín or the many rock art sites scattered throughout the province.

Some of its most important municipalities from a historical-artistic and tourist perspective are, for example, Alcalá de Júcar, considered the most beautiful village in Albacete, which boasts a castle and numerous white houses. Alcaraz is another of the most charming localities in the province, with its two outstanding Renaissance towers on the horizon. Chinchilla de Monte-Aragón, a medieval town with a castle, Almansa, whose old town is declared a Historic-Artistic Site, or Hellín, with its stately homes and the paintings at Minateda, are among the most outstanding places in the province of Albacete. Towns like Alcalá de Júcar or Almansa are some of the notable points on the Camino de Santiago de la Lana.

The capital of the province is the city namesake of Albacete, a modern city where highlights include monuments such as the Cathedral of San Juan Bautista, the Teatro Circo, the Pasaje de Lodares or the Abelardo Sánchez Park, the location of the Albacete Museum.

The natural surroundings of Albacete include the natural park of Lagunas de Ruidera, with its stunning turquoise lagoons, and the park of Calares del Río Mundo and Sima, where one can admire the source of the Mundo River and the Cueva de los Chorros del Mundo.

The leisure and cultural offerings of Albacete are very extensive, and visitors can explore the Archaeological Museum of Albacete in its capital, various archaeological sites scattered across the province, or enjoy, for instance, a beer at one of the many taverns in the capital.

The province's most prominent festivals include, among others, the Carnival of La Roda, the Semana Santa of Hellín and its Tamborrada, declared of International Tourist Interest, or the Albacete Fair.

In Albacete's gastronomy, the lamb stew, atascaburras, or desserts like miguelitos, small puff pastries with cream, are worth mentioning.
