Barcelona

Barcelona is a cosmopolitan city that also boasts an impressive cultural, historical, and artistic heritage. The capital is one of the most important European cities for commerce, business, and tourism.

Its historic centre, of Roman origin, is made up of the Gothic and El Raval neighbourhoods. The Gothic Quarter is a charming place with small and narrow streets. Here you can visit the Barcelona Cathedral, a 13th-century temple of the same architectural style as the neighbourhood it is named after, where thirteen white geese live as part of an interesting legend; and the Basilica of Santa Maria del Mar.

Another emblematic district of Barcelona is La Barceloneta, an old fishing neighbourhood of extraordinary charm.

La Rambla, also in the old town, is a very wide and emblematic street where street artists, shops and places like the Boqueria Market or the famous Liceu, miraculously standing after several fires, are located. The Columbus Monument, at the end of this street, is one of the most iconic monuments of the capital. The Montjuic area houses very special places in the city such as Montjuic Castle and the Botanical Garden of Barcelona; as well as the Museu d'Arqueologia de Catalunya (MAC).  Poble Espanyol, also in the Montjuic area, is an open-air museum created to showcase many aspects of Spanish culture.

The Sagrada Familia is one of the most important buildings in Barcelona. It is a majestic architectural work designed by Antoni Gaudí. The Casa Batlló and the Casa Milà are two other magnificent examples of this Catalan architect's work.

The Gràcia district was originally a small town. That is why it still maintains in its small streets and squares artisan shops and different and very peculiar establishments.

To the north of the Ciudad Condal, we can visit Park Güell, a colourful civil and modernist work designed by Gaudí for a Catalan entrepreneur named Eusebi Güell.

The cultural and leisure agenda of Barcelona is impressive. In addition to the previously mentioned museums, Barcelona has many others such as the Museum of the Castellers, the Picasso Museum, a perfect place for admirers of the Malaga-born painter; and the Joan Miró Foundation and the Antoni Tàpies among others. The Monastery of Pedralbes, in turn, is a beautiful example of religious architecture in Catalan Gothic style. The Liceu and the Palau de la Música offer very varied music programmes in terms of genres and artists.

We can spend a very pleasant day if we go up to Mount Tibidabo to enjoy its amusement park, or if we visit the Barcelona Zoo or the Aquarium. It is also possible to go shopping: Paseo de Gracia and Gran Via host all kinds of shops and brands, including the most exclusive ones. And, as if that wasn't enough, the coast of Barcelona offers us long and warm beaches in the capital to spend a fantastic day.

That Barcelona is a cosmopolitan and multicultural city can also be seen in its gastronomy, being able to taste typical dishes such as butifarra with ali-oli, pan amb tumaquet, and an endless variety of dishes in the many ethnic restaurants that the capital has.
