Serón, in the province of Almería, is renowned for its gastronomy based on the production of hams, sausages and cheeses, some of which are considered among the best in the world.
This Nazarí-origin town founded for defensive purposes has an urban layout of narrow streets and white houses where a 12th-century castle stands out. This fortress features a clock tower added in the 20th century in the Neo-Mudejar style.
In the 16th century, during the Moorish wars, Serón was a key place due to its strategically perfect location. The main monument from these centuries preserved in the town is the Church of the Annunciation. This 17th-century temple occupies the site of an old mosque. It was erected under Mudejar canons and is considered a historic-artistic monument.
The Almerian municipality is located in a natural environment perfect for enjoying a few days of relaxation and disconnection. Many artists have settled in Serón to develop their work, given the magnificent possibilities offered by its natural surroundings, made up of ancient oak trees and a large number of mineral deposits that were exploited during the 19th and 20th centuries. The main vestige of this industrial activity is the mining settlement of Las Menas.
Serón is also a perfect destination for astrotourism enthusiasts. Just a few minutes from the town is the Calar Alto Observatory, the largest astronomical observatory in Europe. From there you can observe the stars or the Moon in real time.
