Barcelona, located in the northeast of the Peninsula, has Spain's most cosmopolitan city as its capital: its namesake city of Barcelona, which has significant cultural, historical, and artistic heritage for which it was declared a World Heritage Site and in which artists like Gaudí stand out, who gave Barcelona much of its modernist splendour with the Sagrada Familia or Park Güell. The most famous districts of Barcelona are the renowned Gothic Quarter, El Raval, and La Barceloneta, by the seaport. The city has a wide-ranging cultural and leisure offer based on its numerous museums of various types like CaixaForum Barcelona and in theatres and music and dance festivals held in Barcelona.
The coast of Barcelona boasts more than 100 km of coastline with crystal clear waters. Some of the coastal towns of Barcelona are Sitges or Santa Susanna, a perfect sports and holiday destination due to the quality of its seventeen beaches and the large number of leisure establishments it offers. In Canet de Mar, modernist constructions by Doménech i Montaner, Puig i Cadafalch, and Calvet, among others, can be seen.
Cardona is one of the most interesting towns in Barcelona. Its historic center is declared a historic-artistic site. During its foundation in the Middle Ages, Cardona was an expanding place thanks to an economic activity based on salt extraction from its Salt Mountain, which can be visited today. Also, its castle is a must-see as, besides still being an impregnable fortress, it houses the collegiate church of San Vicente, a jewel of the Catalan Lombard Romanesque.
In Manresa, there is the Cave of San Ignacio and the Pont Vell, a 12th-century bridge that has had to be rebuilt several times. Another point of interest in the town is Casa Torrents, a modernist-style building designed by Ignasi Oms i Ponsa for a family from Manresa. Just half an hour from there is Montserrat and its monastery, one of the most visited places in the province and located in a privileged location.
San Cugat del Vallès also has one of the most impressive monasteries in Catalonia.
Moreover, in the province, it is possible to admire, scattered throughout it and other places of the Catalan autonomous community, the magnificent Catalan Romanesque.
The province of Barcelona boasts three natural parks. The Parc Natural de Sant Llorenç del Munt i l´Obac is part of the Network of Natural Spaces. Its Sant Llorenç del Munt massif has a rich biological variety and is of great cultural interest.
Of the province's gastronomy, mainly based on Mediterranean diet products, dishes like the escudella i carn d’olla or escalivada stand out; in addition to delights like pa amb tomàquet or crema catalana.

It is one of the most cosmopolitan cities in Spain. Bordered by the Mediterranean Sea, it was declared a world heritage site due to its great historical-artistic heritage in which artists like Gaudí stand out, granting Barcelona much of its modernist splendour thanks to landmarks such as the Sagrada Familia or the Park Güell. The Gothic Quarter is the oldest part of the city, which boasts an extensive cultural and leisure offer based on numerous museums of different kinds and on theatres and music and dance festivals.
