Herramélluri is a small municipality in the north of La Rioja whose name comes from the combination of the words ‘Ferramel’ and ‘uri’. Ferramel was one of those responsible for repopulating the borders of La Rioja and Burgos; and ‘uri’ means ‘city’ in Basque.
In this small village of no more than 150 inhabitants, the highlight is the 16th-century parish church of San Esteban.
In Aldea de Velasco, a hamlet of Herramélluri, there is a church dedicated to the Nativity of Our Lady. A small and charming building made of ashlar stone that was completed in the 19th century. It is currently semi-abandoned and its interior is in very poor condition.
In Herramélluri, visitors can enjoy numerous activities to explore the natural surroundings of the municipality: trips along the banks of the Tirón and Reláchigo rivers or walks by the lake, where one of the last wetlands of La Rioja can be seen.
