Leiva is a municipality located in the middle valley of the Tirón River, in La Rioja Alta. Its name was given by the Berones, who called it 'Oliva'. The remains of Oliva are located on the Piquillo Hill, where the archaeological site of the ancient city is found. In this site, the Venus of Herramélluri and the sidereal candelabrum of Herramélluri were discovered.
Moreover, Leiva boasts traces of other civilisations such as the bridge and the road, of Roman origin.
In the Olivan municipality, there is a 14th-century Gothic palace. It is a stone building with four towers and surrounded by moats, which belonged to the Counts of Leiva. It is currently very neglected and cannot be visited.
The most important religious building in Leiva is the Parish Church of Our Lady of Purification. It is a Renaissance style temple built to the taste of the Catholic Monarchs.
