Felipe Orlando Pre-Columbian Art Museum

The Felipe Orlando Pre-Columbian Art Museum is one of the most prominent museums dedicated to this art form. It also preserves archaeological remains from Ancient Ages in Benalmádena.

The Felipe Orlando Pre-Columbian Art Museum is located in Benalmádena Pueblo, where the Andalusian essence of this town is preserved.

This museum space is unique in Andalusia, as it houses one of the most prominent collections of Pre-Columbian Art held in Spain. Among its pieces are interesting samples of ancient craftsmanship from Peru, Mexico, Nicaragua, Ecuador, and Colombia.

Its origin was the donation of the private collection of Felipe Orlando García-Murciano, a Mexican painter, writer, poet, and anthropologist. In addition to making his donation, he modified his residence in Benalmádena to create the museum. He also served as curator and director from its opening in 1970 until 2001, the year he passed away.

The collection was expanded with the donation and deposit of pieces from other private collections. An exhibition area of the museum is dedicated to the archaeological remains found in Benalmádena.

Built: 1970.

Style: Pre-Columbian Art

Category: Museum

Type: Archaeological and Ethnological Museum
