Guesálaz / Gesalatz

Guesálaz is located in the Eastern Estella region and just 35 kilometres from Pamplona. This small municipality of just 450 inhabitants is the head office of eleven councils: Arguiñano, Esténoz, Garísonain, Guembe, Irurre, Iturgoyen, Izurzu, Lerate, Muez, Muniáin, and Vidaurre. It also includes four other populated areas: Arzoz, Irujo, Muzqui, and Viguria. The Salado River runs through its territory, its name due to the river's water being rich in salt.

Guesálaz's economy is notable for agriculture, mainly rainfed cereal crops. Cattle and sheep farming also stand out here. However, an activity that is thriving is rural tourism, establishing itself in the valley and surrounding municipalities.

Each of its councils retains its customs and traditions. The Valley Festival is still celebrated, rotating each year to a different council, to foster unity and relations among residents of all populated areas.

For lovers of active tourism, Guesálaz offers various walking and cycling routes to explore all its councils. Moreover, you can enjoy its wonderful landscapes and mountains. Also, the Lerate Bay, which flies the Blue Flag from 2024. Notable buildings include the Viguria Palace (mid-17th century).
