The place known as the Cave of Salamanca is one of the sites with the most stories and mysteries in the city. Originally, it was the crypt of the now-demolished Church of San Cebrián, a Romanesque temple that was destroyed in the 16th century.
According to popular tradition, some kind of demon held classes within its walls, capturing one of its students every 7 years. In reality, it was a space used as a storehouse, bakery, or coalhouse after the destruction of the Romanesque temple of which it was a part.
