It is popularly known as Dominicos. The church has a Latin cross plan, only one nave and a dome over the transept. The façade is framed by a great triumphal arch and is sculpted like an altarpiece with profusion of statues of Saints under medallions and decorated with “grotta” motives.
Through the atrium, located in the right facade, you access to the cloister of the Catholic Kings, by Fray Martín de Santiago, where the Gothic structure is mixed with the Renaissance arches. The grandiose and overelaborated Major Altar by José Churriguera, from the end of the XVII Century is located inside, where we can see San Esteban´ s Martyrdom by Claudio Coello.
Finally, in the choir we can see a great fresco (1705) by Antonio Palomino, with an allegory to the Church´ s victory. There are more chapels that are closed by grilles and spread all over the temple.
The cloister houses incredible places such as the Salón de Profundidades, where Cristobal Colón told the reason of his journey.
