Province of Segovia

Segovia is famous for its Roman aqueduct, over two thousand years old. Located in the Plaza del Azoguejo, its magnificent state of preservation is marvellous despite lacking any mortar to hold the stone blocks together. In its capital, you can also visit monuments such as the cathedral, one of the last Gothic buildings erected in Spain; or the church of Corpus Christi, which still contains remnants of the old synagogue it used to be. There are also many Romanesque buildings and churches in Segovia like San Esteban, the Trinity church, or the Vera Cruz, the latter attributed to the Order of the Templar.

The Alcázar is one of Segovia's most distinctive elements. It is a charming castle that inspired none other than Walt Disney for his films. Residence of the Castilian monarchs and later the seat of the Royal Artillery College, it was also the place where Isabel I was proclaimed Queen of Castile.

In the province of Segovia, we can admire architectural gems like the Royal Palace of La Granja de San Ildefonso, in the town of the same name. The fountains that adorn its beautiful gardens can be seen fully lit on three days a year: May 30, July 25, and August 25. Also, to enjoy the gardens, La Granja can be visited after summer to see the ochre colours that tint it during autumn. In Navas de Riofrío and also part of the Royal Sites Route, is the Royal Palace of Riofrío, a residence projected by Ferdinand VI to keep his stepmother, Isabel de Farnesio, away from state affairs.

Pedraza and Sepúlveda are medieval villages that are part of the network of the most beautiful villages of Spain. Riaza, with its beautiful elliptical square, is one of the villages that make up the Route of the Highlands Villages along with Pedraza. Cuéllar, whose castle and walls are national artistic monuments; and Coca, which stands out for its castle, a jewel of the Mudejar style, are some of the most captivating towns in Segovia.

The natural environment of the province of Segovia is shaped by the natural park of the Hoces del Río Duratón.

Suckling pig, Cantimpalos chorizo, La Granja beans, and Segovian punch are some of the culinary delights of the province.

Situated at the confluence of the rivers Eresma and Clamores, at the foot of the Guadarrama mountain range, Segovia is one of the most important cities in Castilla y León.
