This simple and elegant Royal Palace is located very close to the La Granja de San Ildefonso. Today, it is one of the residences of the Spanish royal family managed by the National Heritage.
It was built between 1751 and 1762 by order of Queen Isabel de Farnesio, wife of King Felipe V.
The surrounding area is a vast forest of about 625 hectares inhabited by deer, fallow deer, and other local wildlife. This palace was then used exclusively by the kings for hunting.
It was only inhabited as a regular and temporary residence by Kings Francisco de Asís de Borbón and Alfonso XII.
Its design corresponds to a palace built in the Italian style with a square layout and a three-storey height. It was constructed under the designs of the Italian architect Virgilio Rabaglio following the model of the Royal Palace of Madrid.
