Province of Seville

The province of Seville is located in the centre of Andalusia, and its capital is one of the most visited cities in Spain due to its great cultural, historical and artistic heritage which includes the monumental ensemble of the cathedral, the Royal Alcazars, and the General Archive of the Indies. Moreover, the capital has such traditional neighbourhoods as Triana, the Macarena district, or the traditional Santa Cruz.

 

The Sevillian Holy Week is a true artistic and ethnographic spectacle that evokes all kinds of spiritual and cultural emotions in those who witness it. Another major attraction of the province is the April Fair, held annually in spring. The characteristic scent of orange blossom in Seville, the colours, the music, and the joy of the festival mix and fill the capital for a whole week.


Highlights in the province include towns like Osuna, a ducal villa and one of the most beautiful in Seville due to its historical and artistic legacy, or Écija and Utrera, both declared historic-artistic complexes. In the municipality of Santiponce, we can visit the archaeological complex of Italica, an ancient Roman city in an excellent state of conservation.  

 

The theme park Isla Mágica is another of the province's tourist attractions. It is themed on the discovery of America and also includes a water park: Agua Mágica.

 

The natural environment of the province of Seville includes the Doñana national park, a marshland ecosystem of extraordinary beauty where lynxes inhabit. The Sierra Norte de Sevilla is a perfect place for hiking or cycling.

 

Seville is a province with a delightful cuisine based on ‘tapeo’ in the capital, the sweet tortas 'Inés Rosales’ made in Castilleja de la Cuesta, the ham from the Sierra Norte de Sevilla, and the shortbread from Estepa.

The capital of Andalusia is joy and colour. Its historic centre houses landmarks like the Torre del Oro or the Reales Alcázares. Seville Cathedral is the largest Gothic temple in the world. Its bell tower is the Giralda, the former minaret of the mosque on which the temple was built. Triana is the best place to enjoy some delicious tapas. The city offers a wide cultural array: museums such as the Fine Arts or the Archaeological Museum of Seville; amusement parks and, of course, its Holy Week, declared an international tourist attraction.

Visiting Écija is like strolling through a city with an incredible artistic legacy, almost like an "open-air museum". It's known as the City of Towers, with its urban landscape boasting eleven towers from its eleven churches. These, along with more than ten palaces, form a fine display of Andalusian Baroque architecture. Like the Palace of Benamejí or the Palace of the Marquises of Peñaflor. In the former, you’ll find the Municipal Archaeological Museum, where you can explore the past of the ancient Roman Astagi, featuring unique pieces such as the Wounded Amazon. You can also discover the history of Écija through the archaeological remains at the Plaza de Armas of the Almohad Royal Alcazar site. Furthermore, here you can savour the exquisite Yemas El Ecijano or the lard cakes, and enjoy the Holy Week, declared of National Tourist Interest. Not to forget the San Mateo Fair in September or the Ecijana Flamenco Night in July.
