Royal Warehouses

The Reales Atarazanas were built by Alfonso X el Sabio.

They constitute the crossing of ways between the Giralda and the Torre del Oro.

The Reales Atarazanas were used as shipyards for the construction of galleys and logically for their entrance and exit up to the River Guadalquivir. They were part of the Royal Alcazar.

Today, the river is remote to this area and their functions have changes. They have had many different uses throughout History such as storing of artillery, deposit of carriages, etc.

Regarding architecture, the building has 17 naves arranged perpendicularly to the river and it is a proof of the Almohad art in the Medieval architecture of Seville. They were reformed in the XV Century.

Were built when this city was going to become the most important port worldwide.

Built: XIII Century (1252)

Author: Anónimo

Style: Mudéjar

Category: Civil

Type: Warehouse
