Santa Cruz Quarter

It is without any type of doubt the most popular and crowded quarter in Seville. It is located in the old part of the city of Seville on the place of the former Jewish quarter. When the king Fernando III conquers the city, the most important Jewish community in Spain is congregated here. To enter to the quarter, which constitutes its own route, we do it through the Patio de Banderas, close to the walls of the Alcázar.

The quarter consists of narrow streets full of flowery grilles, quiet courtyards and unlikely legends and the unequalled square of Santa Cruz, in whose centre we can find the wrought iron cross of La Cerrajería (1692). All these factors make this quarter to be the perfect place for taking a walk and breathing in the aroma of orange blossom and flowers so typical of this city.

Its route includes the most important monuments in Seville (Cathedral, the Giralda, the Hospital de los Venerables, the Royal Alcázar, the Pontius Pilates´ House, the Murillo´ s gardens, the Archivo de Indias, streets such as Tetuán de la Pimienta, de Sierpes, etc).

Built: XV Century
