It is architectonically a simple stone gate, with the structure of a Roman Triumphal Arch with influences of the Neoclassic models of Madrid. It consists of a higher central arch and two side arches.
The Puerta del Carmen gives us an idea of the size of the town during the XVIII Century, because it is one of the gates of access.
The gate has been witness of important historical events of the town. It suffers several damages during the Spanish War of Independence (1808- 1809), the army passed through it during the First Carlist War.
