This fortress has several parapets, moats, groynes and galleries.
These elements were erected in the Middle Ages, because of Ceuta's role as a border town. With the Portuguese victory two sections of the Royal Wall were built, as well as their bastions, a navigable moat and a drawbridge.
Some of these bastions are still standing, like the bastions of Coraza Alta, Bandera and Mallorquines.
