Gaudí Year 2026, a year to rediscover the genius of Catalan Modernism

3/17/2026 4:46:57 PM

This year marks the centenary of the death of Antoni Gaudí, one of the greatest figures in world architecture. His style, combining Modernism with a unique imagination, is at the heart of Gaudí Year 2026, a cultural programme inviting visitors to rediscover his work – much of it declared a World Heritage Site – through activities, exhibitions and special experiences in the key places of his life and career.

Barcelona concentrates most of his most emblematic buildings: the Sagrada Familia, La Pedrera, Casa Batlló, Parc Güell, Palau Güell, Casa Vicens and Casa Calvet. The city has also been named UNESCO World Capital of Architecture, with a wide calendar of events in more than 75 museums, libraries, squares, markets and public spaces.

Beyond Barcelona, highlights include the Crypt of Colònia Güell in Santa Coloma de Cervelló, and the Artigas Gardens in La Pobla de Lillet.

Among the programme’s main activities:

  • 26 April: community dinner in Parc Güell, inspired by the early 20th-century garden parties.
  • 10 June: inauguration of the Tower of Jesus, which will reach 172.5 metres and make the Sagrada Família the tallest building in Barcelona.
  • At Casa Batlló, a new contemporary art space has opened. It hosts exhibitions such as Beyond the Façade, which reinterprets Gaudí’s work with light and immersive technology. The musical Gaudí, el despertar del geni will also be presented, together with the traditional video mapping on the façade.
  • In June, Set Somnis de Gaudí will premiere at the Palau de la Música Catalana, a symphonic-choral work that traces his life in seven movements.
  • Santa Coloma de Cervelló will host a new edition of the Modernist Festival of Colònia Güell.

Gaudí Year also reaches other parts of Spain through the Camino de Gaudí project, which brings together three unique works by the architect:

  • El Capricho in Comillas (Cantabria), an elegant mansion famous for its decorative tower and its programme of activities, special visits, concerts and workshops.
  • Casa Botines (León), which will offer guided tours, concerts and the exhibition Gaudí and the Modern City, scheduled for July.
  • The Episcopal Palace of Astorga, in Neo-Gothic style, where a sculpture of the architect by Amancio González will be unveiled in June.

The Cathedral of Palma de Mallorca also preserves Gaudí’s mark. His interventions brought more light into the church through stained glass and Gothic windows. A special exhibition will offer a deeper insight into his role in this monument.
