The Region of Murcia is one of the most beautiful enclaves in the Spanish Levante. The abundance of resources Murcia offers makes it a perfect tourist destination at any time of year. Its coastline, the Costa Cálida, boasts 250 kilometres of beaches with warm Mediterranean waters, among which stand out those of La Manga, a small town bathed by two seas: the Mar Menor and the Mediterranean. Cartagena, the municipality to which La Manga belongs, is a city with a great historical-artistic heritage due to its Phoenician, Roman, and Arab past. Among its main monuments are its Roman theatre and its castle. Cartagena also hosts the National Museum of Underwater Archaeology and the Cape Palos Lighthouse, from which magnificent sea views can be enjoyed.
The Murcian capital is a tranquil city, perfect for strolling and visiting historical and interesting sites such as the Royal Almunia, the second residence of the Arab kings, the cathedral, and many other Baroque buildings; as well as various museums. The Platería and Trapería streets are two traditional roads in the city where you can find a large number of shops.
Other towns of great tourist attraction in the region include, for example, Lorca, which has an important Baroque architecture legacy, or Jumilla and Yecla, monumental towns.
The natural environment of the Region of Murcia consists of several natural parks such as the regional Salinas y Arenales de San Pedro del Pinatar, a wetland where many types of birds inhabit and nest, or Calblanque, with wide protected sandy beaches with a beautiful diversity of flora and fauna.
The Easter Week in the capital and also in Cartagena have been declared of International Tourist Interest. Monumental and emotional, during their celebration, several sculptures by the religious sculptor Salzillo, a Baroque Murcian author, are exhibited. Another of the most significant festivals in the Region is the Entierro de la Sardina, a celebration that was originally parodic but is now rooted and highly significant for Murcians.
The dishes of Murcian gastronomy are made with products from its extraordinary orchard, such as the case of the Murcian zarangollo. This cuisine is also based on the products that the sea provides, thus the caldero from the Mar Menor is typical in the Region. Among the desserts, fig bread and paparajotes stand out.

On the banks of the Segura River lies the city of Murcia. Capital of the province and the autonomous community of the same name, it is located right at the centre of the Huerta region. With a unique history, it is one of the favourite places for national tourism.
