Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza

The Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza is an art gallery that houses the most valuable works from the private collection of the Thyssen-Bornemisza family.

The museum is located in the Villahermosa Palace and forms part of the so-called Art Triangle of the Paseo del Prado, together with the Prado Museum and Reina Sofía. This building, which had previously been used as a stately home and a bank, was refurbished in 1990 to serve as a museum. The architect in charge of the project was Rafael Moneo. After a few years, the museum had to be expanded due to space reasons.

The Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza houses several collections of works by Renaissance artists such as Simone Martini, Fra Angelico, or Titian. German painting from the 15th and 16th centuries also finds its place in the museum's rooms, where some works by Dürer or Hans Holbein the Younger can be admired, in addition to those of Flemish, Baroque, and 19th-century genius artists.

Built: 1990-1992

Author: Antonio López Aguado, Rafael Moneo

Style: Neoclassical
