Palacio de Linares

The Palacio de Linares is a 19th-century building of great beauty. It was declared a historical-artistic monument in 1976. Since 1922, it has housed the Casa de América.

The palace of the Marquises of Linares and Viscounts of Llanteno is located in the very heart of Madrid: opposite the Plaza de Cibeles.

José de Murga y Reolid commissioned the construction of what would be his residence on a plot of 3064 m2. The palace was designed by the architect Carlos Colubí as a four-storey building with a basement. Its façade was made of limestone, with decorations on the windows and portico in a distinctive Neo-Baroque style. For the interior, high-quality materials were used in a mix of styles, among which Rococo stands out. This is the reason for the charm of its numerous rooms, among which the library, billiards room, music room, Pompeian galleries, and greenhouses stand out, among others. In the palace, you can admire excellent tapestries, mosaics, carpets, and even works by Francisco Pradilla. In addition, the palace complex includes a garden and an annex building designed by Manuel Aníbal Álvarez: the Doll House.

Currently, the palace houses the Casa de América, an institution founded to strengthen relations between Spain and America in 1990. Casa de América established its headquarters in the building in 1992 after it was rehabilitated by Carlos Puente Fernández following almost a century of closure. There, you can attend round tables, theatrical performances, concerts, etc. in its role as a cultural dissemination centre.
